I was very excited for Sanctus Real’s new album. I was hoping that they would return to the days of The Face of Love, but, alas, I was mistaken. The album is definitely solid on its own merit, but I was really disappointed with the continuing change in direction Sanctus Real has taken.
I think the album is great, but I don’t think it matches up to the degree of Sanctus Real’s other projects. The first single released, “Promises,” was really solid and a wonderful representation of the album. It was my favorite track from the album. I especially love the bridge.
The album has a beautiful collection of songs. The deluxe edition is even better, with four new tracks and a remix of the title track. My favorite tracks are “Promises,” “Nothing Between,” and “Sanctuary.” The piano in “Sanctuary” is superb.
While I can certainly appreciate the band going into a more mature style of music, as they also mature, I really will miss their earlier days, when they were more of a rock band than a contemporary Christian pop band.
