Fever Fever is an under-appreciated band, to say the least. Their song, “Clouds Catch Fire”, is absolutely lovely, and was the first song I heard by them. First impressions are everything, apparently, because I couldn’t wait to listen to their first full-length, Aftermath.
This is a beautiful project. The strings in each track give the album musical depth. The lyrics match the sound, which gives the album strong continuity. The unofficial interlude, “Inceptiones Novae”, reminds me of “Melting” from Flyleaf’s Memento Mori, in a sense. This is really a perfectly executed release.
A note on the song, “Line In the Sand”: This is probably my favorite song from the album, but this has a backstory. This was also released on an earlier EP, with the different title of, “On Top of the World”. The re-record of this song has made me love it even more. The strings before the chorus were my favorite part in the original, and, in adding more strings in the re-record, Fever Fever has brought the song from dainty to epic. The lyrical gentleness is still there, but the fervency with which it is sung is simply exquisite. I had no prior knowledge of this being re-done, so when it started during my first listen of the album, I couldn’t keep the smile off my face.
This is truly a work of art.
