(First, allow me to apologize for going AWOL these past months. I’m terribly behind and am ashamed. There have been fabulous albums that have come out and I’ve ignored most of them here.)
(I will start this off by bragging of knowing about From Indian Lakes for the better part of three years.) I’ve known about From Indian Lakes for the better part of three years. I can’t remember where I first heard their music, but I do know the song was “I Have No Answers” from their first album, The Man with Wooden Legs. That still remains one of my favorite songs.
Back when Soundwave was started, From Indian Lakes had released their second full-length album, Able Bodies. The main thing I have to say about this period of time in between these three albums is only how significantly they’ve progressed musically in such a positive direction. They started as more of a punk rock band, and with Able Bodies introduced their new sound. They’ve completed the transition, and in describing Absent Sounds to a friend, the only adjective I could use was “ethereal”.
In a shocking turn of events, I can’t really define favorite tracks from this album. This is, in my opinion, one of those precious few albums that don’t require using the skip button. After much deliberation, stand-out tracks are “Breathe, Desperately”, “Am I Alive”, and “Fog”.
The music offered to us by From Indian Lakes is continuously promising. This is easily one of my favorite albums of the year, and one of the most beautiful compilations of songs to grace our ears.
