I was so excited about this one, that I supersized the picture for you all. :)

I saw Switchfoot’s much-anticipated documentary. It was unbelievable. I would leave it at that, but it doesn’t even cut it. If you recall, Fading West made “Number 1″ in my most anticipated albums of the year. It didn’t disappoint. (Of course, the actual album doesn’t release until January 14, 2014. I’m referring to the movie itself.)

It starts off with the song “BA55,” which you may have heard on the EP at least once if not a million times if you were anything like me. Now, I was slightly disappointed that they used more segments of the new album rather than the whole song, but I guess it just adds to the suspense. That was my only complaint about the entire night. I was hoping for a bigger taste of what to expect from the new album.

The movie is an hour and 23 minutes long. It documents three components: the guys on tour, surfing and generally traveling the world. There is a ton of surfing footage.

The thing I was the most impressed with, and was talking with a friend about on the way home from the show, was the element of family they added in. They made the struggles of being fathers and husbands while also touring as a band a very prevalent theme throughout the film.

Another predominant theme I noticed was the focus on faith and doubt, and as Jon Foreman (Lead vocals, guitar, writing) said during the second half of the show: “Doubt is the other side of the faith coin.” While the film wasn’t overtly religious, I felt that you could see the guys’ faith evidently.

After a twenty minute intermission, the guys came out, answered a few questions, then played a fun, varied set, of both old and newer songs. It was an amazing experience. Switchfoot continues to be steadfast, and I can’t wait until everything (finally!) releases and I can enjoy Fading West in it’s entirety. I’m really excited about this next chapter in Switchfoot.
